Wedding Receptions? I'm getting married in October 2008, I am starting to look at possible places to hold the wedding/reception. Does anybody who lives in northern virginia know of any good places? My fiance and I are a more low key couple. I have great taste, but really don't want anything over the top. Price really isn't an issue, but again I don't want some place that is over done, something mellow with more of a down to earth feel. We want the wedding indoors and an outdoor/indoor reception with a buffet. Any ideas? Or even if you don't live in NOVA, and had a more down to earth, low key yet classy wedding, how did you find a place? Did you go to a hotel, a resort? Everything I look at is just too over the top..
wedding receptions? I am having my wedding and reception at an American Legion. I was wondering what ways I can make them both beautiful and each stand out instead of feeling like I was cheap. We have two kids together and we just decided to get married. So any advice would be wonderful.
What information about wedding receptions do you need? I have a website. my-wedding-reception.com that has advice about wedding receptions and tips and ideas. What other information can i put on here? what are some of the generic things you need to know when organising a wedding reception? Should i be the expert? i started the website to offer free advice, i have not reviewed the site for a few months and im after your opinions. I have allot more of my own but its more efficient to understand what you want to read and know about before i update.
What is the best software to design a seating layout for wedding receptions? I'd like to expand my Graphic Design into printed products and would like to create some seating layout designs for wedding receptions. What would be the best program for that? My first thought was InDesign, or is Illustrator just as good? Or better? What do you guys think? MS Paint - I'd rather gouge out my eyeballs with a rusty knife.
How do I word a wedding invitation for one ceremony and three receptions? My partner and I are originally from different countries and we are planning on having wedding receptions in these two countries as well where we are residing now. We were thinking of doing a wedding invitation for the ceremony which will be in the country we are residing now and also include a reception card which will have the three reception venues in the three countries and give a choice in the RSVP card to tick which one they will be attending. Would like to hear if you have been in a similar position, and if so what did you do?
Is it reasonable to have two wedding receptions? My BF and I have been talking about getting married and yesterday, we were discussing family and friends. We've come to the conclusion that we have two pretty distinct groups of people and a single wedding reception just won't work if we do get married. There are some family members who are strongly against alcohol and some who really enjoy it at receptions. Is it ridiculous to have a simple reception for everyone and then invite a smaller group to an "after reception" with alcohol?
What is the usual tradition around Indian wedding receptions in India? My understanding is that it is a party arranged by the groom's family, in the groom's city, to celebrate the wedding and to introduce the bride to their family and friends. It is usually held 2 or 3 days after the wedding. Few other people say its just another function which happens the same day of the wedding in the same venue where people can give gifts, etc , which in my thinking, is part of the wedding function itself, not a reception. I know there are no strict rules but what is the usual procedure, specially in Gujarati weddings?
What are some good games/activities for wedding receptions? My wedding is in ten months (yea!!) and I am trying to plan a reception. I want both my families and my fiance's families to have a great time! What are some activites or games that would be good for getting people out of their chairs?
Does anyone know where there are free wedding receptions in NJ ? I am looking for wedding reception sites in Southern NJ (Atlantic City to Cape May) that do not charge a fee for the reception. I found one in Cape May, NJ at The Washington Inn. All you pay for is catering, etc. There is no fee for the actual reception. We don't have a lot of money so we are looking for something unique, like historic sites, parks, etc. The cheaper the better, I can always decorate with D.I.Y. Thanks in Advanced.
How economical are backyard wedding receptions? My fiance and I were recently offered my aunt's backyard for our wedding reception. There is a lot of land, and it is very lush and well maintained. While we have not yet itemized the costs of the reception, I am wondering if it is going to be as expensive or more expensive than a reception in a rented facility (esp. with all of the set-up and clean up). If anyone has had any experience in this area, it would be greatly appreciated if you would share it. Thank you!
Unique and Inexpensive Saint Louis Wedding Receptions Sites? I am planning a wedding for spring and I want an inside reception site that is unique and fun but isn't going to cost a lot of money. I can either have a sit down dinner or will go with a cocktail reception so I'm not picky in that aspect. I just want to avoid the typical reception banquet hall experience.

How do wedding receptions go? Please I need help! My fiancee and I are planning a wedding on a budget and I'm doing this mostly on my own. What usually happens at the wedding reception? I had sort of thought about not dancing, not doing a first dance at all, but I think I want to. I know I will not do the guarder toss but I would like to throw the bouquet and dance with my new husband and my sister who is the maid of honor would like to write a toast. So how does this go? In which order? Thanks so much!!!!!
How many people do not have wedding receptions? I do not want to have a reception. Money is tight and I have never enjoyed social get-togethers. My fiance says he wants to do whatever will make me happiest- awww, how sweet! I helped a friend plan her reception last year, and everyone was always arguing and it was just a big headache. I have been to some lovely receptions, but they're just not for me. My friends think I'm crazy- is it really that uncommon?
Cost of wedding receptions in the south carolina? I am trying to plan a budget for my wedding and was wondering how much it would cost for the reception. I live in South Carolina and we thought about having barbeque but decided it would be too expensive. Instead we are only going to have finger foods and cake but no alcohol so that should cut cost. I was wondering what an estimate would be for about 240 people. We are going to have it at a different location so not everyone will show up and the catering and rental fees are free. I just need to know an estimate on the cost of food and some ideas on what to serve, including other kinds of beverages then alcohol or punch. Thanks for the help! It will be near Orangeburg, SC.
Any ideas for affordable wedding ceremonies and receptions in Nashville, TN? My fiance and I are planning on getting married here in Nashville in early December of this year. We've decided that, rather than spending a great deal of money on a wedding and reception, we'd like to just have a small, cheap wedding, then blow all of our money on an extravagant honeymoon! :-) We definitely don't want to just do a wedding chapel, but are hoping for some unique ideas for places in the Nashville area that are cheap but really unique and special. Anybody out there know of any good places? Thanks.
Are rehearsal dinners as formal as wedding receptions? I am thinking about serving loaded baked potatoes and rolls and some cooked veggies at my wedding rehearsal. Is this a bad idea? Is this too informal? I was thinking about having the dinner at a friends house. We are REALLY trying to cut costs and I grow potatoes. Any suggestions appreciated! Thanks!

How do wedding receptions costs work? I am planning on getting married and just began the planning. I am completely clueless about everything. Does anyone know for the reception if they basically charge you by everyones plate (for example 50*100people) or is there also a rental fee involved? I know that sometimes hotels will waive the rental fee if a certain number of guests rent rooms. I have no idea how it works. HELP!
What is the name of that popular Indian dance song I hear at wedding receptions? I used to photograph Hindu weddings, and at every reception, they would all go nuts when this one song came on...Indian language over this really strong beat...Eastern and Western music mixed together. There's no English in the song whatsoever, and it was always their favorite. Well, I love that song too and I want to know what it's called so I can get it!
Going to wedding receptions of people you don't know for your spouse or significant other? OK, men or women, how do you feel when your spouse or significant other drags you to one of these events? I mean, you know nobody, you could care less, etc......... You can't stay sober because you have to DD for your spouse/significant other who is drinking with his/her friends. I think these things are a total sham and am just asking to see how others think about it. Do people really feel better about themselves the more people they have at their wedding???
Does Olive Garden hold wedding receptions? I'm doing a project in one of my classes on planning a fake wedding. I was wondering anyone knew if Olive Garden caters/or holds wedding receptions. My project is due tomorrow, so if anyone knows anything, let me know soon, plz!!!!! thanks guys. Ragan
How to word an invitation where two wedding receptions will be held? One is an open house 2 days before the wedding and one is a reception the day of the wedding in a different city...how should that be worded on the invitation? More and more girls (brides) I know lately have been having their reception the day before or a few days before the wedding...just to create a relaxful wedding day.
Why do we have wedding receptions? Now, I do understand that the point of a reception is to feed everyone as a thank-you for having travelled so far. I also get that the historical traditions of needing to build community, and it being the only entertainment for the next month, do still have some relevance here. But does it seem somewhat silly to anyone else that, after the ultimate celebration, you then have a party? It's hopefully the only event I will ever plan that is guaranteed to be an anti-climax. And it's also hopefully the most work I will ever have to put into planning a party.
Are wedding receptions ever held in fire halls in your area? Do people rent rooms at the local fire company for their wedding reception in your area? Also state what country/state you are in. Thanks! The party is held in an side room where soup sales, and other fund raisers are held. It doesnt interfere with the fire company responding to calls.
Do you have to dance at Wedding receptions? Hi im getting married next year but ive been reading a few things about wedding receptions and some say you have a bride and groom dance at the wedding reception, But i thought this only happens at the evening reception and the bride and groom start of with the first dance. Does it just depend on the where you have the reception or if you dont have an evening do. Thanks
What's the etiquette for seating babies and children at wedding receptions? We have babies and children of all ages coming to our buffet reception. One of our friends requested a high-seat for their child. We have no idea where to get these from and what about for other children. Also we heard parents would generally know to bring their own pram. Is that true? What age to what age would need a pram (and would they bring their own)? What age to what age would need a high chair (and what can we provide or ask them to bring)? Thanks!
