Weddings Reception Decorations

What are some alternatives to live/fake flowers for wedding decorations?

Never really understood spending thousands of dollars on live flowers for a wedding reception. They're just going to dry out in a week. Tens of thousands of dollars dried up in a week. I think I want to make centerpieces out of empty cans of Pabst Blue Ribbon. OOH! I like balloons. I never even thought of it.

  1. Is it just for centrepieces or is it to make up for not having flowers anywhere else at the wedding too? How about: Balloons? Candles? Pot plants decorated nicely? Fabric - organzas, chiffon with little pebbles or tea lights scattered around? One poster to another question said they were giving chocolate favours to guests and were placing them all in the centre of the table in such a way that they made up the centrepiece so that's an idea. A simple water feature? Decorative feathers? Leaves if it's in Autumn? Simple single stem flowers set off by other items, a single red rose can have a strong effect. That's it I'm afraid - all idea'd out!
  2. I was recently at a wedding where they just used a cute candle holder with tea candles burning. They are really cheap you can usually find the holders and the tea lights at the dollar store. And there are tons of different designs for the holders to choose from. It was very pretty Before that I was at a wedding where they used a small vase with some stones it it and a japanese fighting fish. The vase and stones can also be found at the dollar store, the fish are pretty cheap at pet stores. People were arguing about who was gonna get to take the fish home, it was a real hit.
  3. First off, only Hollywood movie starts spend tens of thousands of dollar on flowers. I have been to many weddings and no one has spent that much. Sorry, but I DO love real flowers. It can be something as simple as 1 rose in a vase with some greens: http://www.stmarymercy.org/estorePhotos/giftshop001.jpg OR....a bowl with a few floating flowers: http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2714/4399302077_2fa0c01a50.jpg Now, you asked about alternatives. Well, the most common alternative for centerpiece decorations other than flowers are candles: http://www2.daveamy.com:79/Candle%20Centerpiece%20Idea%20(nailartist710).jpg http://www.wedding-flowers-guide.com/images/globe-candle-wedding-center.jpg You can do the beer can centerpiece if you want: http://www.instablogsimages.com/images/2010/03/26/beer-can-flower-vase_tDWdW_24431.jpg
  4. well there are balloons, trees, crystals, candles- both stationary and floating, candle centerpieces, sticks, foil centerpieces, and origami. But that's all i got off the top of my head.
  5. http://www.save-on-crafts.com/ This is a great web site for additional ideas like herbs, branches, lights, etc.
  6. well the purpose of using the real flowers is getting reality and freshness(atleast for the moment)and real fragrance of course it reminds me that life is short and make it sweet. alternative??????? YOU CAN TRY ARTIFICIAL FLOWERS which can be made re use for several times but real is real and after all artivficial is artificial when we do marriage a grand one why should we bother about the cost your feeling is that after four or five hours they will go to dust bin or a place like that then what about the grand feast ? after four or five hours whersse do they go?
